In the summer of 1765, portrait painter Joshua Pope accepts a commission to paint the wedding portrait of Herbert Bentnick and his fiance, Sabine Mercer, but when Bentnick accuses Joshua of theft, Joshua must find a way to clear his name and salvage his reputation.
