During improvements on the Alamo grounds in the spring of 1966, trenches were dug for electrical lines in parts of the north courtyard. Many artifacts were uncovered and collected. Since the possibilit of recovering valuable information and specimens from the deposits seemed great, an archeological investigation was arranged.
