Hand-washing, counting, checking over and over whether the door has been locked ... when these behaviors dominate someone's life that person may be diagnosed with OCD-a disorder that was once considered rare but that now accounts for nearly six percent of national mental health costs. This program explains the DSM-IV-TR's definition of an obsessive-compulsive disorder, listing the components of obsession and the characteristics of the rituals used to manage anxiety about those obsessions. Through reenactments of patient-therapist consultations, the video also provides an insider's look at OCD and explores some of the treatments used to manage it.
