Description
When city planners first started building housing developments, they assumed it would be the car, not public transportation, that would bring people to needed goods and services. The automobile had come to define America as a nation - it was a luxurious status symbol and an emblem of the country's pioneering spirit. But with gas prices now soaring and air pollution threatening health and habitat, how much longer can the suburban lifestyle be sustained? This documentary examines problems and possible solutions surrounding the dependence on cars created by suburban sprawl, emphasizing the need for walkable, mixed-use communities served by public transit.
