At his club, Ground Zero in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Freeman reveals how the simple but powerful songs by dirt-poor African-Americans went on to inspire the likes of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones and helped create modern rock music. From the early fusion of gospel, rhythm and blues and soul through to modern rock and rap, Freeman examines the role of a breadth of artists, including Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The Supremes, Otis Redding and BB King.
