Description
"Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman talks us through the history of blues music, the characters it has spawned over the 100 years since it was born in the Mississippi Delta and the impact it has had on modern music. At his club, Ground Zero in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Freeman reveals how the simple but powerful songs by dirt-poor African-Americans went on to inspire the likes of Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones and helped create modern rock music. From the early fusion of gospel, rhythm and blues and soul through to modern rock and rap, Freeman examines the role of a breadth of artists, including Robert Johnson, Buddy Guy, Miles Davis, Louis Armstrong, Herbie Hancock, Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, The Supremes, Otis Redding and BB King. The program features stunning live performances, rare archive footage, revealing interviews and Freeman's own love of music provides an engaging insight into American music and its far-reaching influence." -- ABC2 website.
