Description
This video presents the third and fourth segments of a fascinating six part series documenting the history of reggae music. Shot on film by an Oscar nominated cameraman, Deep Roots Music was produced in the early 1980s, just after the premature death of Bob Marley. This film includes the programs "The Bunny Lee Story" and "Black Ark." Witness one great producer and his "family" of artists as they demonstrate how it's done, featuring Prince Jammy, Wayne Smith, Junior Reed, and the fabulous backbone of the Bunny Lee stable - Jackie Edwards, Delroy Wilson, Johnny Clarke, and Prince Jazzbo. Then, experience a celebration of the influence of Rastafari on reggae, including the rarest of footage of His Majesty Haile Selassie. Also featured is Nyabinghi drumming by Count Ossie, Tommy McCook, and Skully; The Mighty Diamonds; Bob Marley; and interviews with Lee 'Scratch' Perry at his home and in the studio, brilliantly describing black power.
