Description
Weaves a plot around three archetypal figures from French baroque opera, keeping the adaptation and retouching of texts to a minimum. The action is shared by a princess in love, a witch queen--her rival--and a valiant prince: the princess, secretly in love and enduring her sufferings with resignation; the witch queen, seeing her own passion for the prince unrequited, fuming with rage and jealousy; and the prince, who proclaims his love and his valor to the sound of trumpets and drums. All the requisite scenes of French baroque opera appear in turn, according to the rules of the genre: battle, religious invocations, sorcery, tempest, sleep, and love duets.
Language
Sung in French.
