Description
An imaginative, often slapstick satire on the alienating and disruptive effects of mass production and automation. Charlie Chaplin, in his last portrayal of his famous character the Tramp, goes from a factory worker to jailbird to night watchman to singing waiter, beset on all fronts by bad luck, misunderstandings, and unfortunate circumstances beyond his control. Befriended only by a lovely but wild street waif, he labors against all odds to make a life for himself. Primarily a silent film with music, sound effects, and some spoken and sung dialogue.
