Supplements an exhibition held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in 1969 and organized by the museum in association with the New York State Council on the Arts.
Description
On January 18, 1969, one of the first exhibits to showcase, through photographs, audio, and text, the Black American experience, opened at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Now, a generation later, Harlem on My Mind still influences the way museums around the world present African American culture to the public. Harlem on My Mind commemorates the work of some of Harlem's most treasured photographers, including James VanDerZee and Gordon Parks. The images, many of which were first published in this remarkable book, now form an integral part of our visual heritage. -- Publisher.
