Description
The abrupt emergence of human culture over a stunningly short period some 50,000 years ago, including the appearance of music, ornamentation, and burial of the dead, and often called the "big bang" of human consciousness, continues to be one of the great enigmas of human evolution. In this book, a major anthropologist introduces a new theory, reexamining the archaeological evidence and bringing in new discoveries in the study of the human brain which detail the changes that enabled humans to think and behave in far more sophisticated ways than before.
