Description
This textbook is the outcome of the author's quest for a readable and highly engaging book that does not compromise basic principles of educational assessment and measurement in early childhood education. It provides insight into how cognitive, developmental, and educational tests work, how to interpret their scores, and how to define the value of measurements made with them. This book provides coverage of the issues of testing special populations including English language learners, academically gifted children, and children from impoverished homes. This book goes on to provide chapter-length coverage of measurement issues involved in accreditation and meeting state mandates. This textbook also examines the impact on early childhood programs of the high stakes testing mandate in third grade. It also provides insight into the identification and planning to meet the needs of children with special educational concerns. Finally, this book provides chapter coverage of communication techniques with parents and another chapter on engaging parents in school programs.
