Gabriel García Márquez was born in Aracataca, Colombia, in 1928. He studied at the University of Bogota and later worked as a reporter for the Colombian newspaper "El Espectador", and as a foreign correspondent in Rome, Paris, Barcelona, Caracas, and New York. A premiere Latin American writer, Gabriel García Márquez is associated with "magical realism", storytelling wherein the fantastic and the real exist side-by-side, and the truth seems to emerge out of the fabulous.--OCLC OLUC.
