"Impressionist landscapes are not spontaneous atmospheric paintings, but rather a place from which the impressionist artist carried out their experiments. Color doesn't represent light, it is light. Landscape is liberated from all historic and symbolic presumption, making it impressionism's primary genre and encouraging the viewer to use all their senses.
