Description
In the first story, Adrift in New York - disowned by her guardian in nineteenth-century New York City, seventeen-year-old Florence is befriended by Tom--a boy from the Bowery--with whom she has a surprising connection. And in the second story The World Before him - disinherited by his scheming stepfather, sixteen-year-old Frank Courtney seeks his fortune in New York City and through perseverance, ambition, and high moral character obtains an excellent job and good prospects for the future.
