Description
This is the story of the period from the end of World War II in 1945 to the signing of the Dulles Treaty in 1952, when four million Americans took part in the occupation of Japan. This is the human story behind the military history, where individuals become attracted to their former enemy, sometimes marrying them, and bringing two cultures together in a new way with a health dose of culture shock. The author follows Emperor Hirohito, Premier Tojo, General MacArthur, and more common folk, including a young Japanese woman and regular American soldiers, as the occupied country rebuilds.
