Notes

General Note
Contains an edition of Bandelier's original French text (title on manuscript: Histoire de la colonisation et des missions de Sonora, Chihuahua, Nouveau-Mexique, et Arizona jusqu'à l'année 1700), edited from the manuscript Vatican City, Biblioteca apostolica vaticana, Vat. Lat. 14111, along with chapter-by-chapter English summaries and introductions in English.
General Note
Bandelier's manuscript History was sent to the Vatican Library in 1887, along with four volumes of sketches and an atlas. The four volumes of sketches and the atlas were cataloged as Vat. Lat. 14112, 14113, 14114, 14115 and 14116, but the History itself was mis-shelved and thought to be lost. It was finally located in 1961 and assigned the shelfmark Vat. Lat. 14111. Ernest Burrus arranged for the sketches and the atlas to be photographed, and had these photographs reproduced as a set of slides. Copies of this slide collection were deposited with Saint Louis University in Saint Louis, Missouri; the Bancroft Library at the University of California, Berkeley; the Amerind Foundation in Dragoon, Arizona; and the University of Arizona at Tucson--Volume 1, page 13.
General Note
Following the death of Ernest Burrus in 1991, volumes 3 and 4 were edited by Charles E. O'Neill, S.J.--Volume 3, page 3.
General Note
Volumes 1 and 2 and the Supplement to Volume 1 were issued simultaneously in the United States by the Jesuit Historical Institute, as volumes 7, 8, and 14 in the series Sources and studies for the history of the Americas. These three volumes have imprint: Rome, Italy ; St. Louis University, St. Louis, Mo. : Jesuit Historical Institute.
General Note
Publication history: volume 1 and the Supplement to volume 1 were published in 1969. Volume 2 was published in 1987. Volumes 3 and 4 were published in 2017.
