Description
The very structure of a trial is formidable to adults; to a victimized child, the procedures of our legal system can be overwhelming, even traumatizing. Dziech, an expert on sexual harassment, and Schudson, a judge pioneering new methods in child sex abuse cases, propose gentle, effective means to facilitate children's testimony. Addressing children in nontechnical language, allowing them to demonstrate what happened using dolls or puppets, and permitting them to sit on a parent's lap while testifying are some methods that show respect for their rights and those of the defendants as well.
