Description
How Charlotte Perkins Gilman developed her capacity to imagine a full-blown utopia for women is the focus of this book. It presents Gilman's writing both in four chapters of scholarly discussion and in a fifth chapter that contains fourteen brief reprinted selections from Gilman's utopian writing. This combination of scholarship and selection of original works is essential for understanding of Gilman because her work is so expansive, so contradictory, that selection can bias the interpretation of her work. (From Utopian writing as "cultural work").
