Description
Raising Rover takes a dog owner through the dog's life, with all of the how, why, when, and where questions answered. This book takes the struggle out of housetraining and encouraging obedience. Whenever any of us is trying to find the best way to train a dog, or trying to solve a canine behavioral problem, we are offered advice from veterinarians, breeders, trainers, even well-intentioned neighbors, but the advice is often confusing, even contradictory. What you'll find In this book is sensible advice that makes sense for the kind of dog one has. Judith Halliburton's instruction works because she takes into account your particular breed. The best way to housetrain a puppy is as an individual, understanding the personality traits that are unique to a breed. Too often dogs are lumped into the "a dog is a dog is a dog" category, and what the dog is truly about, as an individual, is never allowed to shine. What the dog owner who's chosen to adopt a golden retriever will see, for example, is that the breed is profoundly different from the neighbor's Pekingese. These two breeds don't housetrain by the same method, they don't enjoy the same games, they look at learning differently, and their personalities are different right down to the basics.
