Description
Explores economic theories to attempt to explain why some countries are richer than others. Argues that most differences are the result of country-specific policies which result in constraints on work practices and on the application of better production methods at the plant level. Such barriers imply differences in total factor productivity (TFP) at the aggregate level, suggesting that differences in international incomes are the result of differences in TFP.
