Description
Traces the historical, cultural, and social factors that have led to what they term "posttraumatic slavery syndrome," the legacy of mental anguish linked to the brutal traumas inflicted on African-Americans during slavery and its aftermath. Discusses the practical signs to look for when dealing with depression, where to find help, and the differing needs of black men and women. Proposes the need to look again at abuse, gunplay, and illness including HIV, as examples of self-destructive, suicidal behavior.
