Description
"From the beginning of the 1980s political parties of the extreme right in a number of European democracies - France, Austria, Italy - began to enjoy substantial and largely unanticipated strength at the polls. By the mid-1990s, leaders of these far-right parties began to serve as ministers in national governments. Italy led the way, as they had led the way earlier in the twentieth century when Mussolini and his Fascist movement bullied their way into power in Rome. Are we witnessing a repeat performance? Not exactly: as the new radical right parties were, and continue to be, significantly different from their inter-war predecessors. The latter were prototypically anti-democratic and, not uncommonly, anti-capitalist as well. The new far-right parties are neither.
Description
They have their own policy agendas focused on the problems of modern Europe."--Jacket.
