Asthma is caused by inflammation in the airways. When an asthma attack occurs, the muscles surrounding the airways become tight and the lining of the air passages swells. This reduces the amount of air that can pass by. In sensitive people, asthma symptoms can be triggered by breathing in allergy-causing substances (called allergens or triggers).

Using 2009-2014 statewide inpatient data from New York, this study provides compelling new insight on healthcare utilization levels among homeless children with asthma.

Asthma is a chronic disease in which the airways that carry air in and out of the lungs become swollen, inflamed, and reactive. Asthma can be especially serious for children since their airways are smaller. With this easy-to-understand video, parents can learn about their child's condition and how to help keep it under control.

Through the actions of a diverse group of stakeholders, this case study describes how stock albuterol legislation was drafted, advocated for, and passed in Illinois.
