Description
Composed in 1810 as a commission piece from Emperor Francis I for his wife, Empress Maria Theresa, the oratorio depicts in the three parts: first, the end of the world; the second, the resurrection of the dead and the Last Judgment; and the third, the redemption of the blessed. The overture depicts the '"anxious expectation of the universal demise of things."
