Explains the causes of the "Granger movement", explains the organizations by which the farmers proposed to improve their working conditions, explains the political aspects of the movement, and the farmers' attempts to become independent of the middlemen and manufacturers by the establishment of cooperative enterprises, and then shows the influence of the "Granger movement" on social and economic conditions.
